Sensors

                                ECG sensors

ECG sensors interpret the electrical activity of the heart, records it over a period of time,as detected by electrodes attached to the surface of the skin.It gives information regarding the rhythm of the heart, whether the impulse was conducted normally throughout the heart, or whether any part of the heart is contributing more ore less than expected to the electrical activity of the heart. It can also give information regarding the balance of electrolytes in the blood or reveal problems with sodium channels within the myocardium cells. The device detects and amplifies the tiny electrical changes on the skin caused when the myocardium depolarises during each heartbeat. Each heart muscle cell has a negative charge across its cell membrane, when it depolarises due to the influx of positive cations, it activates the mechanism in the cell that cause it to contract. During each heartbeat, the heart will have an orderly progression of a wave of depolarisation that is triggered by the cells in the senatorial node, spreads out through the atrium, passes through the atrioventricular node and then spreads all over the ventricles. The two electrodes placed either side of the heart can detect these tiny rises and falls in voltage and translate it as a wavy line on a screen or paper.
The worldwide incidence of cardiovascular diseases is prevalent, with 600 million in hypertension alone in 2007.This is reflective of the societal phenomena of an ageing population. With an ageing population, more people would need to have access to better healthcare and many would find travelling in and out difficult. A heart rate monitor like this is cheap, easy to maintain and does not require any prior knowledge of how to use the device and most importantly, its accurate and you can use it anywhere. Devices like these could help the families of the elderlies to prevent any sort of-cardiovascular disease from occurring, as the EKG could pinpoint any signs of possible heart problems.Doctors' jobs would also be much easier,as a regular EKG check could increase their understanding of tan elderly's health condition and when needed, administer the right treatment before an attack occurs.
